Integrated natural gas company EQT Corporation hopes to get its fair share of the natural gas market. The company's Equitable Distribution unit distributes gas to 275,000 customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky. EQT operates 7,500 miles of natural gas gathering pipeline and exploits proved reserves of 3.1 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent in the Appalachian region. It operates approximately 13,000 active wells and in 2008 drilled 668 new wells. EQT also has gas transportation, storage, marketing, and trading operations. It changed its name from Equitable Resources in 2009.
