ImmunoGen is TAPping into cancer research. The firm's product candidates are TAPs, or tumor-activated prodrugs, that combine cancer-killing drugs with monoclonal antibodies and attach only to tumor cells. On its own, ImmunoGen is developing two clinical-stage compounds: IMGN242, a TAP drug candidate to treat gastrointestinal cancers and some non-small-cell lung cancers; and IMGN901, which targets small-cell lung cancer and multiple myeloma. The firm has additional candidates in clinical trials through partnerships with Genentech and Sanofi-Aventis, and it has outlicensed its TAP technology to the likes of Biogen Idec and Centocor.
