Big Apple, meet Iron City. The Bank of New York cemented its status as one of the world's largest securities servicing firms with the 2007 acquisition of Pittsburgh-based Mellon Financial. The merger also fits in with the company's other areas of focus, including asset management and corporate trust and treasury services. It was The Bank of New York's third attempt to acquire Mellon. Now known as The Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon), the firm has about $20 trillion in assets under custody and some $1 trillion of assets under management. Its Pershing subsidiary is a leading securities clearing firm. BNY Mellon has a presence in about 35 countries.
