Item 8.01. Other Events.

On February 23, 2013, Affymax, Inc. (the "Company") and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited ("Takeda") announced a nationwide voluntary recall of OMONTYS® (peginesatide) Injection as a result of new postmarketing reports regarding serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis which can be life-threatening or fatal.

A press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by reference.
