Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) issued a press release dated October 21, 2009, announcing its third-quarter and nine-month 2009 results and supplementary schedules (see exhibit 99.1) and presented slides on its web site that accompanied its October 21, 2009, earnings conference call (see exhibit 99.2).

Item 8.01. Other Events.

FCX also issued a press release dated October 21, 2009, announcing that its Board of Directors has reinstated an annual cash dividend on its common stock of $0.60 per share. The Board would declare a quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share, with the initial dividend expected to be paid on February 1, 2010 (see exhibit 99.3).
