Election of Directors; Appointment of Principal Officers

On September 22, 2009, American Electric Power Company, Inc. (the "Company") announced that among other organizational changes, Brian X. Tierney has been elected to the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Company effective October 1, 2009. Mr. Tierney is currently Executive Vice President of the Company and Executive Vice President- East Utilities of American Electric Power Service Corporation. Holly Keller Koeppel, who has been the Chief Financial Officer of the Company since 2006, will be pursuing opportunities outside the Company. Ms. Koeppel will remain as an Executive Vice President of the Company through December 31, 2009 to assist with the transition of her responsibilities.
