Item 8.01 Other Events.
On May 27, 2009 Independent Bank Corp. (the "Company") announced by press
release that the United States Department of the Treasury had awarded $50
million dollars in tax credit allocation authority to one of its wholly-owned
subsidiaries pursuant to the federal New Markets Tax Credit Program. A copy of
the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1. The Company anticipates
discussing the potential financial impact of this award when it releases its
financial results for the second quarter of 2009.
