On April 30, 2009, New Century Bancorp, Inc. (the "Registrant") announced financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009. For the first quarter of 2009, the Registrant reported net income of $408,000, compared to a net loss of $90,000 for the same period in 2008. Basic and diluted earnings per share for the first quarter of 2009 were $0.06, compared to ($0.01) for the first quarter of 2008. A copy of the press release (the "Press Release") announcing the Registrant's results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009, including a table of selected financial information, is filed as Exhibit 99.1 hereto and incorporated by reference herein.
