Management believes operating income and statutory combined ratio are useful to investors because these measures demonstrate the normal, ongoing operations of the core business. Management has historically employed operating income and statutory combined ratio as valuable measurements of the underlying profitability of the Company's insurance operations since they exclude the impact of the Company's investment results.
