Hockaday, Jr. notified Sprint Nextel Corporation (the "Company") that he has decided not to stand for re-election at the next annual meeting of stockholders to be held May 12, 2009. His decision is not as the result of any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company's operations, policies or practices.
