On January 30, 2009, Southern Copper Corporation, or SCC, issued a press release announcing financial results for the quarter and twelve month period ended on December 31, 2008. A copy of this press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.

ITEM 8.01 OTHER EVENTS

On January 30, 2009, SCC issued a press release announcing a quarterly dividend of U.S.¢11.7 per share payable on March 30, 2009, to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 11, 2009. A copy of SCC's press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.2 and is incorporated herein by reference.

SCC further announced that as part of the U.S.$500 million share repurchase program approved by its Board of Directors in 2008, SCC has repurchased 29.6 million shares of its common stock at an average price of U.S.$13.52 per share, resulting in a 3.5% increase of the existing shareholders' participation in SCC common stock.
