ITEM 5.02 DEPARTURE OF DIRECTORS OR PRINCIPAL OFFICERS; ELECTION OF DIRECTORS; APPOINTMENT OF PRINCIPAL OFFICERS

On February 2, 2009, Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. (the "Partnership") announced via press release that on January 27, 2009 Charles R. Wesley, 54, was elected to the Board of Directors of Alliance Resource Management GP, LLC ("Alliance"), the managing general partner of the Partnership. Mr. Wesley joined the company in 1974 and has been Senior Vice President-Operations since August 1996.

A copy of the Partnership's press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
