Item 8.01. Other Events.

On January 5, 2009, SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. issued a press release announcing, among other things, that it has received from Defiante Farmaceutica S.A, a company controlled by Sigma-Tau Finanziaria S.p.A, a notice of intention to nominate four candidates for election to SciClone's seven-person board at the 2009 annual meeting of SciClone stockholders.

A copy of the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1hereto and is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.
