Sara Lee Corporation today announced that L.M. (Theo) de Kool, executive vice president and chief financial officer (principal financial officer), will retire at the end of the current fiscal year in June 2009. The company has launched a search to replace Mr. de Kool.

A copy of the press release announcing Mr. de Kool's retirement is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this report.
