On October 16, 2008, The Chubb Corporation (Chubb) issued a press release announcing its preliminary financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. A copy of the press release, which is incorporated by reference into this Item 2.02 as if fully set forth herein, is attached to this Form 8-K as Exhibit 99.1. In the press release, Chubb presented operating income per share which Chubb believes is meaningful to investors, but which is a financial measure that is not based on accounting principles generally accepted in the United States.
