(NYSE:SAF) Safeco Corporation provides property and casualty insurance products and services in the United States. It operates in four segments: Safeco Personal Insurance, Safeco Business Insurance, Surety, and P&C Other. The Safeco Personal Insurance segment offers auto insurance; homeowners and other property insurance, including homeowners, dwelling fire, earthquake, and inland marine coverage; and specialty insurance products, which provide umbrella, motorcycle, recreational vehicle, and boat owners insurance. The Safeco Business Insurance segment offers business owner policies, commercial auto, commercial multi-peril, workers compensation, commercial property, and general liability policies, as well as property and liability insurance for mini-storage and warehouse properties, and professional and general liability insurance for non-profit social service organizations. The Surety segment provides contract and commercial surety bonds for construction, performance, and legal matters, such as appeals, probate, and bankruptcies to contractors and businesses. The P&C Other segment includes run-off assumed reinsurance, large-commercial business accounts, commercial specialty programs in run-off, asbestos and environmental results, and run-off religious institutions. Safeco sells its insurance products to drivers, home owners, and small and mid-sized businesses through independent agents.
