The company operates in two segments, Metals and Plastics. The Metals segment offers engineered specialty grades and alloys of metals, as well as specialized processing services. Its products include alloy, aluminum, stainless, nickel, titanium, and carbon in various forms, such as plate, sheet, extrusions, round bar, hexagon bar, square, flat bar, tubing, and coil. This segment also provides various specialized fabrications for its customers through a network of pre-qualified subcontractors that thermally processes, turns, polishes, and straightens alloy and carbon bar. The Plastics segment stocks and distributes plastics in various forms, including plate, rod, tube, clear sheet, tape, gaskets, and fittings, as well as provides various processing activities comprising cut to length, cut to shape, bending, and forming according to customer specifications. The company offers its products and services to aerospace and defense, oil and gas, power generation, mining, heavy equipment manufacturing, marine, office furniture and fixtures, transportation, and general manufacturing industries. In addition, it holds a 50% joint venture interest in Kreher Steel Co., a Midwest metals distributor. The company was founded in 1890 and is headquartered in Franklin Park, Illinois.
