As of December 31, 2006, it had an annual production capacity of approximately 138 million tones of crude steel. The company operates in 60 countries with principal focus on North and South America, western Europe, eastern Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, and Africa. The company was founded in 1989. It was formerly known as Ispat International N.V. and changed its name to Mittal Steel Company N.V. in 2004. Further, the company adopted its name to ArcelorMittal in January 2007.
