It manufactures and sells sterilizers, including low temperature liquid, steam, and ethylene oxide for the re-use of medical equipment and devices in healthcare facilities; automated washer/disinfector systems that clean and disinfect various items, such as rolling instrument carts and other large healthcare equipment, as well as small surgical instruments; and general and specialty surgical tables, surgical and examination lights, equipment management systems, operating room storage cabinets, warming cabinets, scrub sinks, and other complementary products and accessories for use in hospitals and other ambulatory surgery sites. The company also offers cleaning chemistries and sterility assurance products used in instrument cleaning and decontamination systems; and cleansing products, including hard surface disinfectants, and skin care and hand hygiene solutions. In addition, it manufactures and sells capital equipment and service solutions. Further, the company provides contract sterilization, microbial reduction, and materials modification services to companies that supply products to the healthcare, industrial, and consumer product industries. It also offers various preventive maintenance programs and repair services; sterilization management consulting services; and other support services, such as facility planning, engineering support, device testing, customer education, and the sale of replacement parts. STERIS sells its products to healthcare, pharmaceutical, scientific, research, industrial, and governmental customers worldwide. The company was founded as Innovative Medical Technologies in 1985 and changed its name to STERIS Corporation in 1987. STERIS is headquartered in Mentor, Ohio.
