It principally involves in processing chemical raw materials, such as methanol, carbon monoxide, and ethylene, as well as natural products, including wood pulp into value-added chemicals, thermoplastic polymers, and other chemical-based products. The company operates in four segments: Advanced Engineered Materials, Consumer Specialties, Industrial Specialties, and Acetyl Intermediates. The Advanced Engineered Materials segment produces and supplies high performance technical polymers, such as polyacetal products (POM); and UHMW-PE (GUR), an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. POM is used in a broad range of products comprising automotive components, electronics, and appliances. GUR is used in battery separators, conveyor belts, filtration equipment, coatings, and medical devices. The Consumer Specialties segment produces and supplies acetate tow and acetate flake, which are used in the production of filter products; and Sunett, a sweetener, as well as food protection ingredients, such as sorbates, for the food, beverage, and pharmaceuticals industries. The Industrial Specialties segment offers emulsions and PVOH products that are used in paints and coatings, adhesives, building and construction, glass fiber, textiles, and paper applications; and low-density polyethylene and specialty, ethylene vinyl acetate resins, and compounds, which are used in flexible packaging, lamination products, medical tubing, and automotive parts. The Acetyl Intermediates segment provides acetyl products, such as acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer, acetic anhydride, and acetate esters that are used as starting materials for colorants, paints, adhesives, coatings, and medicines, as well as offers organic solvents and intermediates for pharmaceutical, agricultural, and chemical products.
