| | About Deltic Timber
(NYSE:DEL) |
| | Deltic Timber Corporation, a natural resources company, engages in the growing and harvesting of timber. It also manufactures and markets lumber. It operates in three segments: Woodlands, Mills, and Real Estate. The Woodlands segment engages in the timberland management, which involves harvesting and thinning operations, reforestation, cull timber removal programs, and the introduction of genetically improved seedlings. It also provides harvest planning, silvicultural improvements, and maintenance work for timberlands owned by others under management contracts with one-year renewable terms. This segment also sells non-strategic timberlands, as well as leases hunting, oil and gas, and other rights on its timberlands. The Mills segment operates two sawmills that produce softwood lumber products, including dimension lumber, boards, timbers, and decking; secondary products, such as finger-jointed studs; and residual wood shavings, sawdust, chips, and bark. This segment sells its products to wholesale distributors, lumber treaters, and truss manufacturers in the South and Midwest. Its products are used in residential construction, roof trusses, and laminated beams. The Real Estate segment develops and markets residential lots for homebuilders and individuals, and commercial sites for developers and businesses. It develops Chenal Valley, a community with approximately 4,700 acres of residential and commercial properties; Chenal Downs, a 400-acre equestrian development; and Red Oak Ridge, an 800-acre upscale community designed for residential, resort, or retirement living. This segment also sells undeveloped acreage. The company holds a 50 percent joint venture interest in Del-Tin Fiber L.L.C. to manufacture and market medium density fiberboards. The company was founded in 1996 and is based in El Dorado, Arkansas. |
