(NasdaqGS:CSTR) Coinstar, Inc. provides a range of solutions for retailers’ storefronts, including self-service coin counting, entertainment services, and e-payment services. It owns and operates self-service coin-counting machines; entertainment services machines, such as skill-crane machines, bulk vending machines, and kiddie rides; and e-payment-enabled coin-counting machines. The company offers e-payment services, including money transfer services, activating and reloading value on prepaid wireless accounts; selling stored value cards; loading and reloading prepaid debit cards and prepaid phone cards; prepaid phones; and providing payroll card services. It also offers self-service DVD kiosks that enable consumers to purchase or rent movies, as well as provides point-of-sale terminals, stand-alone e-payment kiosks, and e-payment enabled coin-counting machines in drugstores, universities, shopping malls, supermarkets, and convenience stores. As of December 31, 2008, Coinstar owned and operated approximately 18,400 coin-counting machines, approximately 145,000 entertainment services machines, 23,000 point-of-sale terminals, 400 stand-alone e-payment kiosks, and 11,000 e-payment-enabled coin-counting machines. It has operations in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Ireland. The company was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.
