It owns or controls music recordings under long-term agreements consist primarily of back catalog, out-of-print recordings, past hits, world music, classical music performances, previously unreleased music recordings, live performances, and other music that is not readily available from traditional music retailers. The companys music recordings under short-term arrangements consist primarily of contemporary recordings by independent record label artists. Its video content comprises classic episodic television shows no longer in wide syndication, vintage feature and short films, cartoons and other animated features, music videos, live music and stand-up comedy performances, action shorts, reality programming, sports events, and programs focused on children or special-interest groups. As of September 30, 2007, Orchard Enterprises had approximately 353,000 individual music recordings under management and approximately 4,000 hours of music, television, and film videos. The company was founded in 2004. It was formerly known as Digital Music Group, Inc. and changed its name to The Orchard Enterprises, Inc. in February 2008.
