The Delivery and Services segment conducts electric transmission and distribution businesses that serve approximately 381,000 customers in northern West Virginia; 480,000 customers in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia; and 713,000 customers in southwestern, south-central, and northern Pennsylvania. The Generation and Marketing segment owns, operates, and manages electric generation facilities. This segment generates electricity through various fuel sources, including coal and synthetic fuels, natural gas-fired, pumped-storage and hydro, and steam. As of December 31, 2008, it owned or controlled approximately 6,919; 2,811; and 1,084 megawatts of generation capacity. This segment also purchases and sells energy and energy-related commodities.
