It operates in two divisions, Cardiovascular and Ablation Technologies, and Implantable Electronic Systems. The company offers tachycardia implantable cardioverter defibrillator systems that provides therapy to patients suffering from lethal heart conditions, such as sudden cardiac arrest; cardiac resynchronization therapy devices to treat patients suffering from heart failure; pacemakers to help patients whose hearts beat too slowly or who suffer from other cardiac arrhythmias; and leads to connect devices to the heart to carry the electrical impulses to the heart and provide information from the heart to the device. It also provides implantable loop recorders that monitor a patient's heart rhythm over a set period of time to provide information into underlying pathologies, such as bradycardia, atrial fibrillation, and other cardiac arrhythmias; and programmers and remote monitoring equipment for patient management. In addition, the company offers vascular closure devices, compression assist devices, pressure measurement guidewires, diagnostic coronary imaging technology, vascular plugs, percutaneous catheter introducers, and diagnostic guidewires; and heart valve repair and replacement products, and transcatheter structural heart defect devices. Further, it provides electrophysiology introducers and catheters, ablation systems, as well as cardiac mapping, navigation, and recording systems for diagnosing and treating various irregular heart rhythms, as well as for use in the electrophysiology lab. Additionally, the company offers neurostimulation systems for chronic pain, such as rechargeable implantable pulse generators (IPGs) and primary cell IPGs. The company sells its products through direct sales force and independent distributors. St. Jude Medical, Inc. was founded in 1976 and is headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
